Hi,I am trying to update my WEC7 installation and have run into a dead end: it complains it needs access to shared source msi, which after a google search turns out to be unavailable in the update package. Here are the possible solutions/work around as far as I could figure out from various posts:1. Get the ISO package from MSDN Subscription page. This didn't work for me, since the link to download from MSDN Subscription page is broken.2. Uninstall shared source component so that WEDU doesn't attempt to upgrade it.I have no idea how to get rid of shared sources. If anyone has ideas how to overcome this problem, please share.Thanks,Samie. This should be the way because you need to latest iso to overcome this issue. If the link does not work, contact MSDN or you can contact one of the distributor(s) still out there providing you a DVD, but I would put my 2 cents on MSDN2.

Not sure what you mean and I am not sure if that works but perhaps you can uninstall WEC7 completely and reinstall without share source (not nice cause it will take you a day probably). Usually not what you want cause the shared source is quite usefulfor debugging purposes and for reference.Good Luck,Erwin Zwart, eMVPCheck out my blog: Embedded Partnertraining and development services. Thanks again Erwin and Bruce for your help.I managed to download and successfully install Wave 2 update (Dec 2014) from the MSDN My Subscription website. Now, I am trying to bring it up-to-date till May 2015 and I think I am caught in the same loop: it is stuck at trying to download the shared sourceupdate. I am guessing it is the same issue that shared source updates are not available publicly. If that is the case, can Microsoft not do at least one of the following:- Make the shared source update optional (so that at least other sources could be updated)- Check that shared source is already installed and then allow download of updates too.
If base shared sources are not installed, then dont allow shared source update.- Provide all updates from MSDN subscription websiteAny workarounds or tips would be appreciated.Thanks. I eventually managed to install all the WEC7 updates released up until May 2015.Here is the summary of what I did for the individual issues I encountered if anybody else encounter the same problems:- Keep the following at hand: base WEC7 installation DVDs (disc 1, disc 2), Dec 2014 disc. All of these I had downloaded from 'My MSDN Subscription' page- During installation, when it can't find certain files locate them at the following locations:sharedsource.msi - windowsembeddedcompact7disc1x86x64dvdpimx1.cab - windowsembeddedcompact7disc2OSplatformIMX313DSpimx1.cabWEC7 doc update - click Download buttonSharedSourew2.msi - Dec 2014 disc (wave 2)W2OSsharedsourceFor everything else, keep the checkbox enabled for 'Allow downloading for all files'With a lot of persistence and patience, it eventually successfully completed the update.
Word of caution: if you have any version controlled folders in public folder or platformcommon, they might get overwritten and might also remove the metadata folders(e.g.svn folders for SVN) so your local workarea will get corrupted and dirty. Make sure there are no modified sources and you have to manually remove all version controlled files from C:WINCE700 tree.Hope this will be helpful.Samie. I strongly agree with Erwin, and Michel's Blog posts.I have yet to find anything in Public or PlatformCommon that I couldn't in some way clone into my platform or OSDesign. In fact, our automated build system will only get code from Platform, OSDesign and 3rd Party - which excludes rogue engineers frommodifying Public code and corrupting our build environment. If you find something that you think that you can't clone, please post it here.
